"Saturday Night Live" has been a comedic and American staple for more than 35 years. Almost since it's inception, cast-members and alumni have made leaps to the big screen. In the new Showtime series, "Shameless", funny lady Joan Cusack takes on the role of a germaphobic/

agoraphobic housewife. She's fantastically funny and endearing as she tries (and fails) everyday to take a step outside. Also her chemistry with lead actor William H. Macy is right-on.

Synopsis: A woman tries to start her life over after her mobster husband is killed.

Complete with big 80s hair and New York accents, "Married to the Mob" will be a fun experience for you. Michelle Pfeiffer, in an atypical role, is fantastic as Angela DeMarco. After her lying, cheating husband (Baldwin) is murdered, Angela hightails it to the city to start her life over with her son. It's a funny, light-hearted movie with a great cast (Mercedes Ruehl is hilarious) and I highly recommend it.

I've long thought Melanie Griffith was more fluff that stuff, but she proved me wrong in the performance of her career; as Tess McGill in 1988's "Working Girl". Although she showed her typical shy demeanor, it worked and she brought along real depth. Together with pros Sigourney Weaver, Harrison Ford, and a hilarious (and big-haired) Joan Cusack, Griffith made this well-written story a must-see. So... see it!

Super talented Frances McDormand plays quirky, odd-ball Jane in this charming film. She stars with Jennifer Aniston and fellow quirksters Catherine Keener and Joan Cusack. Her character Jane doesn't wash her hair, speaks her mind (even when it's not really appropriate), and loves her seemingly-gay husband. McDormand shines in a complex and dirty role.

John Hughes hit movie gold with the first of a string of teen masterpieces. The movie follows Samantha (Ringwald in her first starring role), who spends the day trying to subtly remind her family it's her sixteenth birthday. The whole cast is hilarious, but Anthony Michael Hall, Gedde Watanabe, and Blanche Baker stand out.
