Oscar Nominees of Color

* there are 20 acting nominations every year, since 1937. Between 1928 and 1936, there were no supporting categories. Also the very first Academy Awards only had 3 Best Actor and 3 Best Actress nominees.

as of 2012:
* there are a total of 1,576 acting nominees in Oscar history
*there are 113 non-white nominations out of 1,576, which means actors of color make up 7% of those nominated
*there have been 316 acting winners in Oscar history
* of those 316, there were 27 wins for actors of color (25 winners because Denzel Washington and Anthony Quinn are the only persons of color to win twice)

***persons of color are those of African, Asian, Latin, Native American (north, central, and south), Middle Eastern, and Hispanic heritage
