Did You Know...

... 80s mega star Molly Ringwald turned down the lead roles in 1990's "Pretty Woman" and "Ghost", the movies that made movie stars out of Julia Roberts and Demi Moore. I can imagine Ringwald is still kicking herself for that. Especially considering that in 1990 she starred in "Strike it Rich" (I haven't heard of it either). Big mistake... huge!

Ginger of the Week

Molly Ringwald was born in Roseville, California, the daughter of a homemaker and chef. She started her career as a young child, appearing in several local commercials. When she was 11, she was cast in the first season of "The Facts of Life". Unfortunately, producers decided to take the show in a different direction and Molly was cut from the cast by season two. It wasn't a problem because in 1984, Molly was selected to play 'Samantha' in a new John Hughes-directed teen-comedy called "Sixteen Candles". Before it was even released, Molly was working on "The Breakfast Club" and she skyrocketed to fame as the new 'it' girl of the mid 80s. Her next venture was "Pretty in Pink" and this solidified her place as queen of the teen film, even landing her on the cover of Time Magazine. She later starred in "Fresh Horses", "The Pick-up Artist", and "Betsy's Wedding", but she never again found the kind of success she had once enjoyed. Currently, Ringwald costars in the television show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" as mother to the main character.

13 Best Wedding-Themed Films

10) SIXTEEN CANDLES

Director: John Hughes
Actors: Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Michael Schoeffling,
Blanche Baker, Justin Henry, Havilland Morris, Gedde Watanabe,
Paul Dooley, John Cusack
Year: 1984

Perhaps the funniest wedding scene in cinematic history, Blanche Baker does a marvelous job as an intoxicated bride trying desperately to make her way down the aisle. I nearly died when she yanked off her veil because she couldn't "see with this thing on". This is certainly a warning to all future brides; be careful not to take too many muscle relaxers on the big day.

20 Best Teen/High School Movies

2.) SIXTEEN CANDLES
Director: John Hughes
Actors: Molly Ringwald, Michael Schoeffling,
Anthony Michael Hall, Gedde Watanabe, Justin Henry,
Haviland Morris, Blanche Baker, John Cusack, Joan Cusack
Year: 1984

John Hughes hit movie gold with the first of a string of teen masterpieces. The movie follows Samantha (Ringwald in her first starring role), who spends the day trying to subtly remind her family it's her sixteenth birthday. The whole cast is hilarious, but Anthony Michael Hall, Gedde Watanabe, and Blanche Baker stand out.

1.) THE BREAKFAST CLUB

Actors: Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy,
Anthony Michael Hall, Paul Gleason
Year: 1985

Yes, that's right. The number one teen movie takes place solely in a high school library. Even though this film was made 25 years ago, it's still very relevant to America's teens. It made stars out of all it's cast, helping start the media creation known as the 'Brat Pack'.
