25 Best Christmas Films

10) EDWARD SCISSORHANDS

Director: Tim Burton
Actors: Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Anthony Michael Hall,
Dianne Wiest, Kathy Baker, Vincent Price, Alan Arkin
Year: 1990

Back when Johnny Depp was just 'that hot guy from 21 Jump Street', he met a quirky weirdo by the name of Tim Burton. This meeting led to the two becoming one of the most powerful duos in Hollywood, but it all started with a strange little film called "Edward Scissorhands". Everything about this film is awesome (the set, costumes, screenplay, and the acting). Of course, Depp stands out, but I especially like the sweet, Betty-Crocker-ish performance by Dianne Weist.

25 Most Attractive Actors

Johnny Depp (1963)

Johnny Depp began his career in B horror films ("A Nightmare on Elm Street") and silly television shows ("21 Jump Street"), but he hit his stride when he made the seemingly odd choice to star in unknown director Tim Burton's risky film "Edward Scissorhands". Depp hasn't looked back and has based his career on his talent rather than his great looks.

Skip It

Film: CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Director: Tim Burton
Actors: Johnny Depp, Freddie Highmore, David Kelly, Helena Bohnam Carter, Noah Taylor, Missi Pile, James Fox, Deep Roy, Julia Winter, AnnaSophia Robb
Year: 2005

Taking the classic 1977 original family film and turning it into a uber-weird, crazy mess was not such a good idea. I don't think it was really one specific thing that turned me off, but when the credits began to run, I felt strange and uncomfortable. The kookiness of Depp wasn't enough to keep this flick afloat. Always default to the Gene Wilder version. It's terrific.

MisMatched

Actor: CHRISTINA RICCI
Film: "Sleepy Hollow"
Character: Katrina Van Tassel
Year: 1999

Christina Ricci is an acquired taste. She really isn't a very good actor, but I've grown up with her. I can remember her cute face in "Mermaids" and her odd coming-of-age in films like "Casper", and "Now and Then". That is why it hurts me to say this. Ricci is completely wrong for this film. She's totally unsure of herself. She made me feel uncomfortable (and I'm pretty sure that is not how Burton intended to get that reaction from the audience). What's more... Ricci as the love interest for much older Depp is awkward to say the least. Bottom line: I don't buy it.

Did You Know...

... Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage have been good friends since the early 80s (before either one was famous). Cage even convinced Depp to take up acting. Not too long after, Depp got his big start in 1984's "A Nightmare on Elm Street".
