Flick of the Day

Film: HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE
Director: Jean Negulsco
Actors: Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe, David Wayne, Rory Calhoun, Cameron Mitchell, William Powell
Year: 1953

Synopsis: Three young women set their sights on marrying wealthy men in 1950s Manhattan.

I'm not a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe, but she actually did very well in this comedic role. Along with sexy Lauren Bacall and bubbly Betty Grable, Monroe is out to catch herself a rich husband. Bacall is at her best as a cynical beauty who thinks she has it all figured out.

Flick of the Day

Film: SOME LIKE IT HOT
Director: Billy Wilder
Actors: Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Marilyn Monroe, George Raft, Pat O'Brien, Joe E. Brown
Year: 1959

Synopsis: Two men disguise themselves as women to avoid a mobster.

I had put off seeing this classic film for a long while because I avoided Marilyn Monroe, but a few years back I broke down and decided to watch it. It was a good choice because I loved this funny flick. Marilyn was decent, but it was Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis (who was robbed of an Oscar nomination) who helped this movie become one of the greatest comedies of all time.

In Memoriam...

Jane Russell (June 21, 1921 - February 28, 2011) was a Hollywood actress and sex symbol in the 1940s and 1950s. She was born in Minnesota, the oldest of five children (and the only daughter). Her family moved to Burbank in 1930 and Russell made her way to Hollywood. She got into modeling, but then decided to study drama with Max Reinhardt's Theatrical Workshop.

25 Most Beautiful Actresses

7.) MARILYN MONROE

With a knack for playing a 'dumb blonde', Monroe achieved what few have; iconic mega-stardom. Arguably the most famous and tragic movie star of all time, Monroe became the ultimate sex symbol. Although rarely photographed sans makeup, she proved that without the heavy foundation, false eyelashes, and bright lipstick, she was a true natural beauty.
