Did You Know...

... the title of Miss Golden Globe is historically given to a child of a celebrity.

Laura Dern was Miss Golden Globe in 1983 (she's the daughter of actors Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd). She then won her very own Globe in 1993 (Best Actress (tv movie) - "Afterburn")... and again in 2009 (Best Actress (tv movie) - "Recount").

Melanie Griffith was Miss Golden Globe in 1976 (she's the daughter of actors Tippi Hedren and Peter Griffith). She won a Globe in 1989 (Best Actress (film) - "Working Girl").

Anne Archer was Miss Golden Globe in 1972 (she's the daughter of actors Marjorie Lord and John Archer). She was nominated for Best Actress (film) - "Fatal Attraction" in 1988 and won a special Globe for Best Ensemble - "Short Cuts" in 1994.

Joely Fisher was Miss Golden Globe in 1993 (she's the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actor Connie Stevens). She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress (tv) - "Ellen" in 1998.

Freddie Prinze, Jr. was Mr. Golden Globe in 1997 (he is the son of comedian/actor Freddie Prinze).

Other notables: Actors Rumer Willis (daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore), Lorraine Nicholson (daughter of Jack Nicholson), and Dakota Johnson (daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith - making her a 2nd generation Miss Golden Globe).

Ginger of the Week

Tilda Swinton is one of those rare, off-beat actors, who manages to amaze audiences with every unique, powerhouse performance. Her Oscar winning role in 2006's "Michael Clayton" was mesmerizing and her new turn in 2011's "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (for which she just won the NBR Best Actress Award) is on track to score her another Academy accolade. Born in London, she attended Cambridge University and then set out to try her hand at theater. It was her supporting role in 2000's "The Beach" that put her on the Hollywood map. Since then she has had roles in "Vanilla Sky", "The Deep End", "Adaptation", and "The Chronicles of Narnia". Up next: "Moonrise Kingdom" (with Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, and Edward Norton).

Flick of the Day

Film: RED
Director: Robert Schwentke
Actors: Bruce Willis, Mary Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfus, Julian McMahon
Year: 2010

Synopsis: Retired members of the CIA begin to be assassinated.

What a rush. Aging bad-asses Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Brian Cox, and Bruce Willis are awesome in this witty, original action flick. Mirren and a hilarious Malkovich stand out in a phenomenal cast (even Bruce Willis, who is typically blah). Get you butt in gear and check this film out immediately.

Brit of the Week

Emily Blunt (Feb. 23, 1983) was born in Roehampton, London to a teacher/actress and an attorney. At age sixteen, Blunt moved to Hurtwood House (college) and studied drama. She was discovered by an agent shortly after and made her theater debut. She made her screen debut in 2003, when she was cast in the series "Boudica". It was her edgy and manipulative role in 2004's "My Summer of Love" that garnered her major attention from Hollywood. She has since costarred in "Gideon's Daughter" (for which she won a Golden Globe), "The Devil Wears Prada", "Charlie Wilson's War", "The Wolfman", and "The Adjustment Bureau". Up next: "The Muppets" (with Jason Segel and Amy Adams), "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" (with Ewan McGregor and Kristin Scott Thomas), and "Looper" (with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis).

One of the greatest indie films ever gave us one of the greatest dance scenes ever. Tarantino directed Uma Thurman and John Travolta in a little dance to Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell" and their careers skyrocketed.

"You're a fraud, Helen! You're a walking lie and I can see right through you."

Flick of the Day

Film: THE FIFTH ELEMENT
Director: Luc Besson
Actors: Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker, Ian Holm, Luke Perry, Tiny Lester, Lee Evans
Year: 1997

Synopsis: A cab driver and an alien fight to save the world from a mad man.

Bruce Willis, who at the time was an action megastar, heads up this quirky cast in the sci-fi, flick "The Fifth Element". Despite his fame, Willis is overshadowed by Gary Oldman, Milla Jovovich, and a hilariously ridiculous Chris Tucker. The story behind "Element" is original and very refreshing and the costumes are amazing. You will laugh and your heart will race in this action-packed Luc Besson film.

Ginger of the Week

Deborah Ann Woll may not be a name you recognize, but you definitely know her face if you ever tuned into the soon-to-be cult classic... cheese-tastic "True Blood". Woll plays newly 'born' vampire Jessica, who can't stop getting into trouble. She's feisty and smart, but entirely too naive and impulsive for her own good. She was a great addition to the cast and added a funny new storyline. With roles in the upcoming "Catch .44" (with Bruce Willis), "Seven Days in Utopia" (with Melissa Leo), and "Little Murder" (with Terrence Howard), I have no doubt that she will go on to bigger and 'less corny' things.
