Quote of the Day

"I do believe Marsellus Wallace, my husband... your boss, told you to take me out and do whatever I wanted. Now, I wanna dance. I wanna win. I want that trophy, so dance good."

Flick of the Day

Film: MR. MOM
Director: Stan Dragoti
Actors: Michael Keaton, Teri Garr, Frederick Koehler, Jeffrey Tambor, Martin Mull, Christopher Lloyd
Year: 1983

Synopsis: A man is fired from his job and stays home with the kids while his wife goes back to work.

Michael Keaton (no relation to Diane) is best known for his roles as serious Bruce Wayne in "Batman" and "Batman Returns", but he has a silly side too. In "Mr. Mom" he plays a father trying to be a good stay-at-home dad, with funny results.

Performance of the Day

Actor: SUSAN SARANDON
Film: "Igby Goes Down"
Character: Mimi Slocumb
Year: 2002

I have longed enjoyed performances by Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, but rarely have I seen her master dark comedy like she did in "Igby Goes Down". She is outstanding as 'Mimi', a wealthy, pill-popping, mega bitch, who tries to control her rebellious son, Igby (Kieran Culkin). Sarandon is hilarious and pitch-perfect in this 2002 gem.

"You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. Period."

Will Smith as 'Christopher Sr', "The Pursuit of Happyness", 2006

Reincarnations

Hugh Grant is the modern day James Stewart. They both possess that goofy charm and they sure look a lot alike.

***Grant is most known for his roles in "Nine Months", "Two Weeks Notice", "Love Actually", and "About a Boy". Stewart was most famous for his roles in "It's a Wonderful Life", "Harvey", "The Philadelphia Story", and "Rear Window".

... Oscar winner Morgan Freeman got his start on the 70's children's show "The Electric Company", where he played characters like 'Easy Reader' and 'Dracula'.

Performance of the Day

Actor: ELIZABETH TAYLOR
Film: "Little Women"
Character: Amy
Year: 1949

Before she was known more for her scandalous lifestyle as opposed to her tremendous acting ability, Elizabeth Taylor starred as 'Amy' in the 1949 version of "Little Women" (the best one). She is hilarious as the snotty and slightly ignorant younger sister of June Allyson's 'Jo'. I've never seen Taylor (who donned a blonde wig) so funny and her comedic timing is perfect. I highly recommend this film.

Actor Madeleine Stowe's father is a white American and her mother is Costa Rican. She is best known for her roles in "The Last of the Mohicans", "Unlawful Entry", "Twelve Monkeys", and "The General's Daughter".

Brit of the Week

Jason Statham (Sept 12, 1967) hails from Derbyshire, England, the son of a homemaker and lounge singer. He moved to Norfolk, where he met his lifelong friend former footballer and actor Vinnie Jones. When he was young he pursued diving and was a member of Britain's National Diving Squad for 12 years. He soon began modeling and was later introduced to Guy Ritchie, who was casting for "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels". Statham's career was on a roll when he landed parts in "Snatch", "Ghosts of Mars", and "The One", but it was his decision to take the lead role in "The Transporter", that catapulted him into mainstream movie stardom. Up next: "The Mechanic (with Ben Foster) and "The Killer Elite" (with Clive Owen and Robert De Niro).

Six Degrees of Separation

Samuel L. Jackson and Linda Cardellini

(Rules: find the least amount of connections between the two actors. You must use professional connections, i.e film and television projects. No relationship connections (meaning no marriage, etc). You must type out each part of the connection. Example: George Clooney to Owen Wilson. You can do George to Brad Pitt in "Ocean's Eleven". Brad to Gwyneth Paltrow in "Seven". Gwyneth to Owen Wilson in "The Royal Tenenbaums". That would be 3 connections.)

Performance of the Day

Actor: STEVE MARTIN
Film: "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"
Character: Freddy
Year: 1988

Still one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Steve Martin is outstanding as a small-time con artist who pairs up with one of best scam artists around (a more than perfect Michael Caine). Martin is at his absolute best, playing multiple roles including that of "Ruprecht the Monkey Boy". This is a screen gem.

Ginger of the Week

California native Eric Stoltz broke into Hollywood in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". He went on to be cast as 'Marty McFly' in the blockbuster "Back to the Future", but was replaced after initial filming began. He didn't let this setback dissuade him though and went on to star in "Mask", "Some Kind of Wonderful", "Singles", and had a small, but very memorable role in 1994's "Pulp Fiction". Recently Stoltz appeared in "The Butterfly Effect", "The Honeymooners" and had recurring roles on "Grey's Anatomy" and "Will and Grace". Stoltz has also stepped behind the camera and filling the role of director for shows like "Law and Order", "Boston Legal", "Grey's Anatomy", and "Glee".

Double Take

Brittany Snow looks like the identical twin of Jessy Schram

*** Brittany is best known for her roles in "American Dreams", "Hairspray", "John Tucker Must Die", and "Prom Night". Jessy Schram is an up-and-coming actor who has had roles in "Medium", "Veronica Mars", and "Unstoppable".

Family Ties

Amber Tamblyn is the daughter of veteran actor Russ Tamblyn.

***Amber is known for her work in "Joan of Arcadia", "127 Hours", "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", and most recently "House M.D.". Russ is known for his roles in "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", "Father of the Bride" (1950), "Peyton Place", and as 'Riff' in "West Side Story".

MisMatched

Actor: BEYONCE KNOWLES
Film: "Obsessed"
Character: Sharon
Year: 2009

I am no fan of Beyonce in the medium of film, but this performance takes the cake when it comes to bad, bad, and bad. Beyonce is cast as a housewife and mother who fights off a deranged stalker. To put it simply... she's terrible. I couldn't enjoy this "Fatal Attraction" rip-off because my senses were in overload whenever Ms. Knowles was on camera. She was stiff, lacked depth, and honestly just seemed to be completely uncomfortable. I say stick to singing and shaking your ass, Beyonce.

Performance of the Day

Actor: BRAD PITT
Film: "Seven"
Character: David Mills
Year: 1995

In one of the creepiest films ever, Brad Pitt stars as Detective David Mills. He teams up with Morgan Freeman to find a serial killer with a pension for the seven deadly sins. I'm not a huge fan of Brad's, but he did very well in this movie, especially in the heart-wrenching finale.

*Happy 47th Birthday, William Bradley Pitt!!!
