The first time I saw J.K. Simmons was in the gritty series "Oz". He played an aging neo-Nazi inmate in a maximum security prison. Well, needless to say, his portrayal of Mac McGuff in 2007's Best Picture Oscar nominee is VERY different. Simmons plays the cool, understanding father to title character Juno. He's a terrific actor and makes this part his own.
