Brit of the Week
Hailing from London, actor Sophie Okonedo (Jan. 1, 1968) was born to a Nigerian father and a Jewish mother. After attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Okonedo tried to break into the business in her native England. She hit American screens when she portrayed the Wachati Princess in "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls". She then moved on to roles in "The Jackal" and "Dirty Pretty Things", but it was her work in 2004's "Hotel Rwanda" that gave her tremendous credibility, garnering her a SAG and Oscar nomination. She used that success to get a starring role in "Aeon Flux" and a Golden-Globe nominated part in the made-for-television movie "Tsunami: The Aftermath". Happy 42nd Birthday, Sophie!!!!
