Synopsis: A look at the life of an abused woman in the early 20th century.
If you haven't seen this masterpiece... you should be very ashamed of yourself. This brilliant adaption of Alice Walker's touching story is amazing (no surprise, Mr. Spielberg). Whoopi Goldberg, who is known mostly for her comedic performances, is spectacular as Celie, an uneducated girl who is practically sold into an abusive marriage to a man twice her age. This film looks at struggle, like you've hardly seen it before, and the power of hope and true friendship. I can't watch this movie and remain dry-eyed. So, I am starting "The Color Purple" challenge. Watch the film, uninterrupted and see if you can go all the way through without shedding a tear. If you can... you might be an emotionless stone. If you can't, you lose the challenge, but you gain a wonderful cinematic experience.
