Jamie Lee Curtis is actually the daughter of stars Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. The two were at their peak professionally in the 1950s and 1960s (Curtis starred in the major hit "Some Like it Hot" and Leigh starred in "Psycho").

I'm not a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe, but she actually did very well in this comedic role. Along with sexy Lauren Bacall and bubbly Betty Grable, Monroe is out to catch herself a rich husband. Bacall is at her best as a cynical beauty who thinks she has it all figured out.
Actors: Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor,
Cyd Charisse, Rita Moreno
Year: 1952
Who doesn't love dancing in the rain? Gene Kelly was one of the best dancers on screen and here you can see why. It should have been called "Dancing in the Rain".
Actors: Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Marilyn Monroe, George Raft, Pat O'Brien, Joe E. Brown
Year: 1959
Synopsis: Two men disguise themselves as women to avoid a mobster.
I had put off seeing this classic film for a long while because I avoided Marilyn Monroe, but a few years back I broke down and decided to watch it. It was a good choice because I loved this funny flick. Marilyn was decent, but it was Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis (who was robbed of an Oscar nomination) who helped this movie become one of the greatest comedies of all time.
This was the first film Hollywood lovebirds, Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman ever did and it was fabulous. Joanne Woodward delivered a salty performance to a sarcastic Newman. This film is one of the jewels of the 1950s and Woodward is one of the biggest reasons why.
... the book series (and subsequent films) 'Eloise at the Plaza' is reportedly based on Liza Minnelli's life as a child. Kay Thompson, the author, was one of Judy Garland's best friends and Liza's godmother. Minnelli was a resident of The Plaza Hotel in the 1950s (which also is the time period the book is set in).
... actor Montgomery Clift of "From Here to Eternity" and "A Place in the Sun" fame, nearly died in a car accident after leaving a party at Elizabeth Taylor's home in Beverly Hills in 1956. Taylor was contacted shortly after by another friend (and witness to the terrible accident) and rushed to help Clift. While the ambulance was on its way, she helped remove a tooth from his throat (he was chocking on it). Clift suffered many injuries to his face (broken jaw and nose to name a couple) and never looked the same. He developed an addiction to pain killers as a result.
Before scoring an Oscar for her role in "West Side Story", Rita Moreno made her mark in the classic and wonderful musical, "The King and I". She shined as Tuptim, a girl who is gifted to the King of Siam.
... in 1958, screen goddess Lana Turner's 14-year-old daughter was prosecuted for murder. Turner testified that her boyfriend at the time, Johnny Stompanato, was beating her and when her daughter (Cheryl Crane) tried to intervene, Stompanato was stabbed. In the end, the incident was ruled a justifiable homicide, but not before witnesses claimed that Turner's testimony was the acting performance of her life.
