25 Best Christmas Film

2) ELF

Director: Jon Favreau
Actors: Will Ferrell, James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Amy Sedaris,
Zooey Deschanel, Ed Asner, Bob Newhart, Peter Dinklage
Year: 2003

You can't beat 6'3" Will Ferrell in yellow tights. He stars as Buddy... the elf who travels to NYC to find his father. It's laugh-out-loud funny and you will want to make this a yearly Christmas ritual. My favorite part: Buddy tells a department store Santa that he can't be the real Santa because he smells like beef and cheese.

Actor: GRETA GERWIG
Film: "Arthur"
Character: Naomi Quinn
Year: 2011

I'm not sure if recasting this part would have saved this blah film, but it might have helped. Greta Gerwig is incredibly flat, in the updated role that charming Liza Minnelli created. I didn't buy Russell Brand's obsession with her. It just didn't make sense, especially since the other leading lady was a hilarious and oddly sexy Jennifer Garner. Gerwig really reminded me of another MisMatched favorite, Zooey Deschanel.

Did You Know...

... Brad Pitt and Sarah Polley were originally cast as 'Russell Hammond' and 'Penny Lane' in 2000's "Almost Famous". Pitt admitted to director Cameron Crowe that he didn't understand the character and Polley dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with another film. Billy Crudup was cast as 'Russell' and Kate Hudson (who was originally cast as 'Anita', and subsequently replaced by Zooey Deschanel) was recast as 'Penny'.

22 Best Dance Scenes

Film: 500 DAYS OF SUMMER
Director: Marc Webb
Actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Geoffrey Arend,
Chloe Moretz, Matthew Gray Gubler, Minka Kelly, Clark Gregg
Year: 2009

I never fancied Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a dancer, but he actually holds his own amongst the crowd of professionals. Shaking his groove-thing to Hall and Oates 'You Make My Dreams Come True' was just one of the reasons this film was so fun.

Actor: ZOOEY DESCHANEL
Film: "Elf"
Character: Jovie
Year: 2003

I'm not sure who's idea it was to make sarcastic, odd-ball Zooey Deschanel a love interest of Will Ferrell, but bad choice you. Deschanel is a very... particular kind of actor. She... well, to put it nicely, always plays herself. It worked in "Almost Famous" and "500 Days of Summer", but this casting decision was not good. Many people have cited the age difference as the reason, but I think that if they had developed some chemistry, it wouldn't have mattered (also Will is 13 years older than Zooey, which in Hollywood standards makes them the same age). It was hard to watch her awkward behavior around hilarious Ferrell. I felt like she didn't really know how to be. Ferrell is so crazy and kooky that they needed to cast a 'straight woman' for the part of Jovie.
