Quote of the Day

"Do not drink too much. Do you hear me? I don't want you passing out or going to the dark side. No going to the dark side!"

Thomas Haden Church as 'Jack', "Sideways", 2004

Skip It

Film: PAYCHECK
Director: John Woo
Actors: Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman, Aaron Eckhart, Paul Giamatti, Michael C. Hall, Kathryn Morris, Ivana Milicevic, Joe Morton, Colm Feore
Year: 2003

While this isn't the worst film ever made, it wasn't keeping my interest. This can be added to the string of bad films Ben Affleck was doing in the early 2000s (i.e. "Reindeer Games"). It was a nice try by action director John Woo, but the story wasn't up-to-par.

Ginger of the Week

New York-born Kate Mara started her career in a 1997 episode of "Law and Order". She landed two recurring roles on "Everwood" and "Nip/Tuck", but it was her role as Heath Ledger's daughter in "Brokeback Mountain" that really got her noticed. She has since appeared in "127 Hours", "Shooter", "Transsiberian" and "The Open Road". Next up, she'll appear in "Ironclad" (with Paul Giamatti and Brian Cox) and "Ten Year" (with Channing Tatum).

Flick of the Day

Film: THE NEGOTIATOR
Director: F. Gary Gray
Actors: Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Spacey, David Morse, Ron Rifkin, Paul Giamatti, John Spencer, Siobhan Fallon, J.T. Walsh
Year: 1998

Synopsis: A wrongfully-accused police negotiator takes an office hostage, to find out who really killed his partner.

This fantastic nail-bitter stars Samuel L. Jackson (in a perfect role) as a police negotiator, who is framed for the murder of his partner. Jackson takes an office full of people hostage, in order to solve the mystery. When the police try to talk him down, he asks for a negotiator (Kevin Spacey in a pre-"American Beauty" role) from another department to help him. This film is wonderfully done by a young F. Gary Gray (only his third project).
