Performance of the Day

Actor: RACHEL MCADAMS
Film: "The Family Stone"
Character: Amy Stone
Year: 2005

Rachel McAdams is one of my favorite actors. Even in a hum-drum movie like "The Family Stone", she is great at creating an effective character. In the 2005 film, McAdams plays 'Amy', the intelligent, sarcastic, and somewhat bitchy youngest sister in a large New England family. She's a no-nonsense, tell-it-like it is kind of gal and she sees right through Meredith (Sarah Jessica Parker). There's nothing attractive (she walks around in sweats) or typical about this role, but McAdams is not your typical actor.

Actor: JENNIFER HUDSON
Film: "Sex and the City"
Character: Louise
Year: 2008

Fresh off her Oscar win, someone thought it was a good idea to cast Jennifer Hudson as Carrie Bradshaw's personal assistant. I say, NO. I cringed every time Hudson entered a scene. She just seemed uncomfortable the entire time and I'm gonna go out on a limb here... she's not a very good actor. I know, I know... she won the Oscar. I happen to think that was a mistake. There was one scene in "Dreamgirls" that she rocked... the one where she sings "I'm Telling You". The rest... blah. Hudson should stick to singing.

Film: SEX AND THE CITY 2
Director: Michael Patrick King
Actors: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Chris Noth, John Corbett, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Willie Garson, Mario Cantone
Year: 2010

I feel like it's blasphemy, but I can't hold back any longer. My beloved characters were nearly ruined in my eyes forever after this horrible, horrible film. I'm not sure what creator Darren Star was thinking or what director Michael Patrick King was drinking when he wrote this, but it's one of the worst movies I've EVER seen (and I saw "Howard the Duck"... twice). The girls we all love were barely recognizable. The situations were preposterous. The clothes, well, they weren't even good (the worst is Carrie's best man get-up). I feel deceived and I am very disappointed... especially with Sarah Jessica (that's right, I can't even bring myself to call her SJP). Do not see this! I can't be any clearer. Do not... see it!!!!

Oscar Photos

Back at the 1989 ceremony, there seemed to be a lot of not-so-famous
actors who dated one another (but were destined for failure as a couple)

Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey, Jr. dated
for years before either was very famous.

Drew Barrymore and Corey Feldman were an item.
Drew had a stalled career and Feldman was nearing
the end of his fame.

Martha Plimpton and Oscar nominee River Phoenix
were sweet on each other, but broke up soon afterwards.

Tom Cruise (who was already famous, but not a mega
star) was actually married to Mimi Rogers at this point.
Strange match. They divorced in 1990.

Episode: "Cock-a-Doodle Do"
Season: 3
Air date: October 15, 2000

Synopsis: Samantha deals with loud transsexual hookers. Charlotte is depressed about leaving Trey. Miranda feels ridiculed by a Chinese take-out lady. Carrie is awaken by roosters on the roof next door.

Carrie and Miranda run into Aidan and Steve (who are both on a date) and awkward hilarity ensues. But the real fun of this episode has to be Samantha's 'situation' with the neighborhood hookers. I love this episode mostly because it showcases a big fight between Carrie and Miranda (having to do with Big) and you can see how close the two are.

Best Outfits: Carrie's thrift store ensemble, Samantha's bbq look
Worst Outfit: Miranda's bbq look

Best Quotes:
"Get that thing out of my a** or I'm gonna sh** on it. Is that not the
dirtiest thing you've ever heard?" Samantha
"Okay, we have a choice. We can either run the other way or we can move
into this building." Miranda
"Samantha always knew how to get her way with men, even
if they were half women" Carrie
"Wake up Carrie. How many more times are you gonna
go through this? He is bad for you." Miranda

Episode: "Twenty-Something Girls vs. Thirty-Something Women"
Season: 2
Guest Star(s): Bridget Moynahan, Rachel Miner, Anson Mount
Air date: September 26, 1999

Synopsis: The girls head to the Hamptons. Charlotte dates a twenty-something guy and gets more than she bargained for. Carrie dates a doctor, but runs into Big, who's dating a twenty-something Natasha. Samantha's twenty-something assistant quits and steals some of her clients. Miranda tries to have fun on her own, but ends up looking like an old square.

First off, it's the Hamptons. Enough said, right? What really makes this episode special is the introduction of Carrie to the 'idiot stick-figure with no soul' (aka Natasha). It's a deep cut (and a slap in the face) for Carrie to realize that Big has quickly taken up with Natasha (who looks like a model and works for Ralph Lauren in Paris).

Best Outfit: Carrie's black cocktail dress she wears to a book party.
Worst Outfit: Carrie's hoe-down look.

Best Quotes:
"You stood in line at Studio 54. I stood in line at Studio 54... the movie!!!!" Nina
"They said this place was shabby-chic, I'm thinking it's much more shitty-chic." Samantha
"All right, somebody puked on the deck!!!!" Miranda
"You know the rule. Good on paper, bad in bed." Samantha
"Excellent!!!" Miranda
"Charlotte really is in her 20s. She's got crabs." Carrie

Episode: "The Post-It Always Sticks Twice"
Season: 6
Guest Star(s): Michael Showalter, LaLa Vazquez
Air date: August 3, 2003

Synopsis: Carrie deals with the aftermath of her Berger-post-it-breakup. Miranda finally can fit into her pre-baby jeans. Charlotte decides that she wants to have a small wedding. Samantha doesn't like the idea of being Smith's 'girlfriend'.

This episode was the beginning of life for Carrie without boring Berger. She let loose with her girls in a club called Bed and almost got arrested for smoking pot on the street. It's funny and shows a side of Carrie we rarely see; angry. Carrie's fabulous hooded dress is eye candy.

Best Quotes:
"We have to get out of here immediately" Carrie
"Apparently twenty dollars will buy you three drinks, a channel change, and a joint." Samantha
"It's midnight. The official end to what will now be known as... the day I got arrested for smoking a doobie." Carrie

Episode: 'The Real Me'
Season: 4
Guest Star(s): Margaret Cho, Heidi Klum, Alan Cumming
Air date: June 3, 2001

Synopsis: Carrie is asked to walk in a celebrity fashion show that mixes "models and real people with style". Miranda gets asked out by the hot guy at her gym. Samantha does a nude photo shoot. Charlotte develops vulvodynia.

Although there are a plethora of episodes to choose from, I am starting off with my favorite one of all time. This is the one where Carrie becomes "fashion roadkill" all while strutting to Cheryl Lynn's 70s anthem, "To Be Real". **Watch all the way through the end credits for an extra little bit of our girl, SJP.

Best Quotes:
"You're f***ing doing my show. if I have to hunt you down, skin you alive, and have one of the other models f***ing wear YOU." Lynn Cameron
"Strut? Do I strut? Am I a strutter?" Carrie
"This is my boyfriend Damien. I use the term 'boyfriend' loosely, as Damien's clearly a homosexual." Lynn Cameron
"Ed Harris? Ed Harris? Try Ed-I-have-no-Harris." Anthony
