... actor Montgomery Clift of "From Here to Eternity" and "A Place in the Sun" fame, nearly died in a car accident after leaving a party at Elizabeth Taylor's home in Beverly Hills in 1956. Taylor was contacted shortly after by another friend (and witness to the terrible accident) and rushed to help Clift. While the ambulance was on its way, she helped remove a tooth from his throat (he was chocking on it). Clift suffered many injuries to his face (broken jaw and nose to name a couple) and never looked the same. He developed an addiction to pain killers as a result.
